What Color is Your Underwear?

In Class:

This week we read the book What Color is Your Underwear? We had lots of giggles and awkward stares while reading our book and doing our silly activities.

As part of circle time, we each got to take turns wearing silly underwear (don't worry it was all brand new!) over our clothes while we practiced /w/ words. Here is a picture of me, as the kids explain to me that my underwear isn't supposed to be on top of my pants! I also had one child tell me "I no want to see that!" while shaking his finger at me. It was one of the best language activities we have done all year.

Miss Emily made an awesome activity that targeted story recall, sequencing and answering questions. Children took turns in small group recalling the order that the animals came in and what color their underwear was.

Way Down Deep in the Deep Blue Sea Activity

Make a book full of sea creatures by printing and cutting these pages into fourths. Staple together, and you can use construction paper for a cover. Help your child know the names of all the creatures, and they can color them to make them silly. Ask your child "What do you see in the sea?" They will say "I see a shark in the sea", etc. Help them to make their good /s/ sound by "keeping the tiger in the cage" (aka keeping their tongue behind their teeth).

What Color Is Your Underwear Activity

Make a flap book! Cut the four pages apart (first picture) and then attach (staple/glue/tape) the appropriate flap to each animal (see example). We printed on colored construction paper, but you can just have your child color each flap. Staple pages together. Have your child color some underwear on each animal, so when you are reading your book you can open the flap and see what  color they are wearing! Good practice for asking/answering questions, and learning colors.

Language BINGO

Print out both BINGO boards- one for you and one for your child. Cut up the description cards. Draw one and read it to your child. Have them put a penny/cheerio/etc. on the picture that the card is describing.
